At an elevation of 6684 ft, Mt. Mitchell is known as the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. In 1915, by state legislature, it became North Carolina’s first state park. Mt. Mitchell state park has many trails varying in difficulty level and includes an observation deck to lookout over nearby ranges. The state park resides in Yancey County and hosts about 400,000 visitors a year and is named for the professor who first detailed its height, Elisha Mitchell. Mt. Mitchell State Park is 32 miles from the hotel with scenic views for the entire drive.
